Our original idea was for the player to collect yellow round objects scattered around the level that would follow the player around, and at the end they would be collected by a friendly mothership. Depending on how many of them were dropped off, friendly entities like turrets and healing fields would spawn during the battle with the end boss. Unfortunately we ran out of time in the end and only the first half of this mechanic is implemented in the jam version.
Additionally, enemies react in different ways when attacked. There are dire consequences to hitting some enemies which encourages a pacifist play-style in some sections of the game. Also, collecting power-ups will make some encounters easier but will make it harder to avoid hitting those same enemies.
